Claudio Z. Mammana

Was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil [november 11, 1942]. He received the BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Aeronautics Institute of Technology [ITA - Sao Jose dos Campos, SP - Brazil] in 1966 and the PhD degree in Electronic Systems from the University of Sao Paulo [Sao Paulo, SP - Brazil] in 1975. In 1968 he joined the Department of Nuclear Physics of the Institute of Physics at University of Sao Paulo.

Among his projects there are: a data-acquisition system for Nuclear Physics, the architecture of a general purpose computer, computer languages for system programming, graphic software tools [including a package for the design of full-custom integrated circuits, a general parametric editor for geometric figures and structures and a package for teaching geometric drawing]. He was president of the Brazilian Computing Society [the association for computer scientists and engineers] [1978-80,1985-87], Director of Technology of Elebra [a private-owned electronic equipment manufaturer 1987-1991], president of the Brazilian Association of Computers and Peripherals Industry [1987-89] and Officer of the Secretary of Science, Technology and Economic Development in the State of Sao Paulo [1991].

His professional activities includes consulting to government agencies [in industrial policy issues] and private and public companies [in software product development, intelectual property issues and strategic planning].

His papers cover Data-acquisition systems for Nuclear Physics, Computer Architecture, Computer Graphic Tools, the Anthropological Foundations of Technology, Industrial Policy, Epistemological Questions in Information Theory, and Statistical Quantum Mechanics.
