Dr. Jun'ichi Toyoda received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Communication Engineering from Osaka University in 1961 and 1963 respectively, and his Ph.D., in the same field from Osaka University in 1966. He is now Professor of the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research at Osaka University. He won the bast paper award of the 7th Annual Conference of Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence in 1993, and the outstanding paper award of World Conference on Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia [ED-MEDIA Œ95] in 1995. His primary interests lie in intelligent tutoring systems, visual fidelity and document comprehension, although previous research has included work in natural language processing and image processing.
