Dr. Akihiro Kashihara received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science and System Engineering from Tokushima University in 1987 and 1989 respectively, and his Ph.D., in Information and Computer Science from Osaka University in 1992. Since 1992 he has been a research associate of the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research at Osaka University. From 1996-1997, he was a guest researcher in GMD-FIT, Germany. He won the bast paper award of the 7th Annual Conference of Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence in 1993, and the outstanding paper award of World Conference on Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia [ED-MEDIA '95] in 1995. His research interests lie in knowledge visualization, cognitive loading in instruction, explanation, and intelligent tutoring systems.
